Our Ethical & Sustainability Aims ~

How to find Westwood B&B Lyme Regis

Hello, I am Lavinia and I am the owner of Westwood House here in Lyme Regis Dorset. I take sustainability and protecting our environment very seriously, as well as supporting our local suppliers.

Lyme Regis would not be what it is today without like-minded businesses and local groups focused on being ethical in their aims and objectives towards the environment. We are so fortunate to be located in one of the most stunning parts of the country and I do my best to help preserve and support Lyme Regis in every way I can.

Westwood’s Heating & Hot Water

I invested in a Bio Mass Furness and this investment was made so that I could provide all the heating and hot water via an Eco-Friendly and efficient heating system.

This heating system is a Bio Mass Furness, which uses wood pellets rather than gas or any other form of energy to provide all the heating and hot water for my guests.

Bio Mass is the fuel that is developed from organic materials. It is a renewable and sustainable source of energy used to create electricity or other forms of power as well as a method of heating water

Doing our bit for the Environment & Local Suppliers

Water Conservation

Westwood has aerated shower heads to first and foremost reduce our water usage. These shower heads do offer a wonderful showering experience, so you can shower knowing also that the hot water is being heated by a renewable and sustainable source of energy.

Our toilets are on a double flush system. A dual-flush toilet is a variation of the flush toilet that uses two buttons or a handle mechanism to flush different amounts of water. the push-button dual-flush toilet differs from siphon-flush toilets in that it relies on gravity to remove waste from the toilet. In addition to its dual-flush feature, the lack of siphoning also means that the toilet requires less water to operate.

Unless you need us too, we will replace towels on your departure. If need us to replacement towels before this time, please leave the towels in your shower and we will change them for you.

Our laundry cleaning company is a locally based business. This means less miles are travelled, compared to larger companies with their lorries who operate on a national basis.

The other thing we do is to collect rainwater in our water butts for the garden watering. We are surprised how much water these rain butts manage to retain after a wet day.

Lighting Efficiencies

Westwood has LED lights installed where it is possible to fit them. LEDs are extremely energy efficient and consume up to 90% less power than incandescent bulbs.  As LEDs only use a fraction of the energy of an incandescent light bulb there is a dramatic decrease in power costs.  Plus, money and energy is saved in maintenance and replacement costs due to the long LED lifespan. LEDs have a lifespan of up to 60,000 hours compared to 1,500 hours for incandescent bulbs.

Recycling Waste

I make sure we sort our waste for recycling and this includes food waste, which is also collected for recycling. We do our best to reduce our use of single plastics by using tubs rather than cling film.
